Lake Villa, IL - September 15, 2009 -ID Label, Inc. announced today the completion of their new manufacturing facility.  The 21,000 sq foot facility will house manufacturing operations, corporate offices and sales/marketing headquarters for the company. ID Label also has a sales office near Boston, MA.

The facility was designed and built under the direction of Principle Construction with the intent of achieving LEED certification.  LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and the new building is on the cutting edge of the latest materials and environmentally efficient construction techniques.

“Through collaboration with the architect, commissioning authority, plumbing designer, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers and our design/build partner, Principle Construction, we have been successful in reducing the negative environmental impacts” stated Jeff Chandler, COO of ID Label.

“Our new facility should yield a reduction in energy use of 24%, CO2 emissions reduction of 33%, reduced water use of 40% while at the same time creating a workplace environment with better indoor air quality and lighting which case studies have illustrated increase worker productivity of up to 16%” added Neil Johnston, President of ID Label.

The new ID Label facility makes a positive impact on the local community and the environment in the following ways:

• Location of the building site was selected in an area designed and suited for this type of facility and use, resulting in a negligible environmental impact. This is one of the most important factors in creating sustainable buildings - locating them on an appropriate site. Developing a building on an inappropriate site can result in the loss of prime farmland or key habitat.
• The stormwater design channels storm runoff into bioswales that promote filtration and captures then treats the stormwater removing suspended solids reducing pollutant release into the aquatic environment.
• Several alternative transportation initiatives have been implemented; bicycle storage w/ shower and changing rooms, special parking spaces for low-emitting and fuel efficient vehicles and a parking area by the front door for car and van pool parking.
• The heat island effect (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) of the building has been reduced by the installation of a white roof membrane minimizing the impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.
• Exterior lighting levels have been designed to light only the areas required for safety and comfort thereby minimizing light trespass from the building and site. This reduces sky-glow improving; sky access, nighttime visibility through glare reduction and eases the developmental impact on nocturnal environments.
• The landscape design incorporates drought tolerant indigenous plant species eliminating the need to use drinking water for landscape irrigation.
• The plumbing design takes advantage of modern high efficient fixtures reducing water use by 40% and thereby reducing the burden on both the municipal water supply and its wastewater sewage systems.
• The HVAC design uses zero CFC based refrigerants in state of the art heating and cooling units that save energy while minimizing the emission of compounds that contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.
• Over 75% of the construction waste generated by the construction of this building has been diverted from land fills by being recycled. Recycled materials have been used whenever possible.
• Over 20% of the materials used on-site have been extracted or manufactured locally supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing environmental impacts resulting from transportation.
• Low VOC – All paints, adhesives, vinyl tile and carpet have been used reducing the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and / or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants.
• Increased controllability of the lighting and indoor heating and cooling systems has been implemented to promote increased productivity, comfort and well being of the building’s occupants.
